5 Questions to Ask Yourself Before Buying a Domain Name

Updated :

A great domain name can be your best friend when it comes to marketing yourself online. However, finding the perfect domain name can be a daunting task! Before settling on the first one you think of, ask yourself these questions first.

1. Can it be easily remembered?

While a cute, creative domain name will definitely help strengthen your personal brand as a real estate agent, it means nothing if clients can't remember it! Stick with a domain name that is short, sweet, and to the point. The shorter the name, the less likely a client will be to misspell or make errors when trying to access it. 2. Can it use keywords?

When establishing a domain name, try to think about what potential clients will be searching. Including your location and expertise will help your listings rise naturally in search results. It also ties into the next point of...

3. Does it relate to you specifically?

Your domain name is in the center of your personal brand, so it needs to represent you! Is your niche luxury condominiums in the bay area? Try something like SFCondos.com. Do you like to represent beach house listings? Try CaliBeachHouses.com

4. Are all different domain extensions available?

Imagine finding the perfect domain name, say CaliBeachHouses.com works for you. Your website is beautiful, your traffic is growing, and you're converting more leads than ever before! However, a competitor notices this and buys CaliBeachHouses.net. Now when people search for your website, they might become confused and end up looking at your competitors listings instead! For this reason, it can be a good strategy to buy multiple domain names to ensure that yours is the one that people see!

5. Is your domain name easy to misspell?

Clients are human; if there is a possibility for error, there's a good chance someone will make it. If you are attached to your domain name and feel it represents you perfectly but there is an often misspelled word in it, consider buying similar domain names as well. This will prevent a situation similar to #4 and stop competitors from profiting off your creative idea!
